Great fun in a comedy club

Los Angeles is America's unofficial capital of stand-up comedy. Every night, famous actors take to the stage of renowned comedy clubs on and around Sunset Boulevard. A visit to LA is not complete without a night of great laughs with some of the best comedians – often in combination with a meal and some drinks, as many comedy clubs also house a restaurant.

At home in the Improv Comedy Club

For over 35 years, the Improv Comedy Club has attracted artists who want to test their jokes on a discerning audience. World-famous stars like Eddie Murphy, Ellen DeGeneres and Adam Sandler once stood on this small raised stage in front of the iconic brick wall. The story goes that TV star Jay Leno helped paint the ceiling when he was just starting out at the club. Every night famous and not so famous comedians try to follow in the footsteps of those big stars. This small club feels like a cosy living room and guests usually sit at or near the front of the room.

Founded by poor Iraqi immigrant Jamie Masada, the Laugh Factory has been attracting top comedians for dozens of years. Famous comedy stars were quickly drawn to the easygoing atmosphere created by Masada. Today, the Laugh Factory is one of the most prestigious comedy clubs in Los Angeles. Tip: you can watch many stand-up comedy shows on the club’s website.

Plenty of shows at the Comedy Store

Housed in an impressive black building on Sunset Boulevard, The Comedy Store is set up like a movie theatre. This improves your odds of getting a ticket to a show. During the evening show in the Original Room 16 actors all present their sketch. Concurrent comedy shows take place in the other rooms, including the Main Room and the Belly Room. Tickets are available online.
